Hannah Weagle logs team-high four shots on goal
BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. (October 26, 2013) – Despite
outshooting Pace 19-14, the Franklin Pierce University
women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-0 decision to the
Setters on Saturday afternoon in Briarcliff, N.Y. The Ravens dipped
to 6-6-3 overall and 5-5-2 in the Northeast-10, while Pace improved
to 3-12-1 and 3-8-1 in league play.
Franklin Pierce put nine of those
19 shots on goal, but Pace keeper Leslie Robertson was more than up
to the challenge by turning aside all nine shots she faced to earn
the shutout win to improve to 3-11 on the year.
Sophomore forward Hannah
Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.) recorded five shots with four
going on net, while freshman Madison Finlay (Plymouth,
Mass.) fired off a team-high six shots with a pair being
put on goal.
With Robertson's stellar play
in net backing Pace's confidence, the Setters attacked
offensively with goals in the 24th and 84th
minutes.
Pace's first goal in the
24th came off the foot of Fabiana Rebecca, who chipped
in a shot past Franklin Pierce keeper Katie Weldon
(Manchester, N.H.) for her third marker of the season.
Katie McGoldrick put the match out
of reach in the 84th with an unassisted tally, which was
her first goal of the campaign.
Weldon made three saves despite
suffering the loss to fall to 6-6-2 on the year.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
Wednesday when the Ravens play host to Southern New Hampshire at 4
p.m. in Sodexo Field.
