RINDGE, N.H. (September 8,
2012) – Freshman forward Keliann Margiotta scored
twice and had an assist, all in the second half, on Saturday
afternoon to lead No. 6 nationally ranked LIU Post over the
Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in non-conference play
at Sodexo Field. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Cote (Athol,
Mass.) made 11 saves in defeat for Franklin Pierce.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce
falls to 2-1 (0-0 Northeast-10), while LIU Post improves to 2-0
(0-0 Pennsylvania State).
LIU Post opened the scoring barrage
18:27 into the first half, as freshman forward Claire Steijn found
some room to maneuver along the end-line on the right-wing side.
She sent a pass from there into the goal mouth, where junior
forward Carlee Dragon rapped home her third goal of the season.
The one-timer would become the
theme of the afternoon, as each of the Pioneers' three second-half
goals would come by putting away crossing passes. Just 5:41 into
the second frame, sophomore forward Lyn-Marie Wilson finished off
her second goal of the season off a feed from Margiotta. Only 49
seconds after the Wilson goal, Margiotta scored her first of two
goals in a span of 3:21, both assisted by Wilson, as LIU Post won
going away.
Cote saw 16 shots on her cage and
was under fire most of the afternoon. She turned aside 11 of them,
but it would not be enough, as she took the loss (2-1) for Franklin
Pierce. Freshman Becca May stopped all four shots on goal at her
end of the field to post the shutout and pick up the win (2-0) for
LIU Post.
The Ravens return to the field on
Wednesday, Sept. 12, when they remain home to host Massachusetts
Lowell in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at
Sodexo Field.
