Jayme Bilafer collects a single in the second game
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (April 14, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce
University softball team was swept in its Saturday doubleheader at
Adelphi, including dropping game one, 6-0, and falling in game two,
7-0, at Janet L. Ficke Field in Garden City, N.Y. The Ravens fell
to 9-22 overall and 7-15 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers
improved to 26-15-1 and 8-14 in league play.
Devon Kelly pitched a masterful
game for Adelphi in game one as she went the distance and scattered
three hits over seven innings with three strikeouts and three
walks. The only Ravens to get to Kelly on the day were freshmen
Alicia Dean (Danvers, Mass.) and Laura
Eidam (Stamford, Conn.) and senior Meaghan O'Neal
(Littleton, Mass.), as all three stroked a single apiece.
Kelly improved to 11-7 on the season.
Adelphi put a run on the board in
both the first and second innings and then exploded for three runs
in the third. Jaclyn Binstock provided the highlight of the frame
by driving in a pair of runs on a base hit to center field. Five
Panthers collected two hits in the game, including Victoria Wink,
Meghan Heiser, Katie Andrews, Kayla Rieger and Jeanine Leo.
Junior pitcher Rachel Allen
(Hull, Mass.) took to the circle for the Ravens and was
tagged with the loss to fall to 3-10 after allowing six runs on 14
hits over 6.0 innings of work.
Laurin Watts tossed the gem for
Adelphi in the second game as she improved to 8-6 on the year after
going all 7.0 innings, yielding zero runs on only three hits with
seven strikeouts and a trio of walks.
The Panthers scored twice in the
first inning, once in the second, three times in the fourth and
once more in the sixth. Amanda Krier had three hits in the game,
including a double and triple, while driving in three runs. Emily
Dorko had a pair of hits and crossed home plate three times in the
victory.
Seniors Jayme Bilafer
(Hull, Mass.) and Nikki Pratt (Gardner,
Mass.) and freshman Alyssa Dolson (Northbridge,
Mass.) each had a single for the Ravens.
Freshman Jessica Colson
(Feeding Hills, Mass.) started for the Ravens in the
circle and lasted just 1.1 innings in falling to 2-5. She gave up
three runs (only one earned) on six hits.
