Women's Soccer Stunned by St. Mike's in Double OT 2-1

Hannah Weagle scores team-leading 10th goal of the season

RINDGE, N.H. (October 2, 2012) – The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team's bid for a third-straight win came to a crushing end on Tuesday night at the Ravens dropped a 2-1 decision in double overtime to Saint Michael's at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The Ravens fell to 5-4-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Purple Knights improved to 2-7-1 and 2-5-1 in league play.

Cassie Crockett ended it for the Purple Knights in the 105th minute as she took a pass from Olivia Biron at the top of the box and fired a shot past the diving Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Lauren Brewer (Westford, Mass.) into the back center of the net. The goal snapped a three-match losing streak for the Purple Knights.

The Purple Knights, who were outshot 23-13 by the Ravens, tied the score at 1-1 in the 58th minute as Katie Butler collected a pass off a free kick and touched it over to Jordyn Mallett, who lined a marker into the lower right corner of the net for her first tally of the campaign.

Franklin Pierce, which fell to 0-2-1 in its last three home matches, got on the board first in the 27th minute when freshman forward Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.) scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season when she collected a loose ball from just outside the box and lofted a nice shot to the upper left corner of the net.

The goal came just a day after Weagle was named the NE-10 rookie of the week for the second time this season, which is the most for any player in the conference.

The Ravens held a 4-2 lead in shots in the two overtimes, but could not come up with the winner before Crockett was able to notch her own.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Saturday when the Ravens play host to New Haven at 12 p.m.
