COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 17, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce
University men's soccer team played to a two-overtime scoreless
draw with Saint Michael's on Wednesday afternoon in Colchester, Vt.
The Ravens moved to 9-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the Northeast-10,
while the Purple Knights moved to 6-4-4 and 2-4-4 in league
play.
Franklin Pierce held a 19-11 edge
in shots for the match, including a 15-8 advantage in 90 minutes of
regulation. However, the Ravens could not solve St. Mike's
goalkeeper Logan Kingman, who stopped six shots in all to move his
record to 6-4-4 on the campaign.
The Purple Knights did not find any
success either trying to break Ravens keeper Jake Wright
(Los Angeles, Calif.), as the graduate student turned away
five St. Mike's attempts to move his record to 9-3-1.
Both teams logged two shots apiece
in the first overtime and the Ravens were able to outshoot the
Purple Knights 2-1 in the second extra session, but both goalies
held strong to preserve the tie.
Junior forward Gareth
Dudney (North Andover, Mass.) fired a match-high seven
shots for Franklin Pierce, including putting a pair on goal. Senior
forward Greg Giguere (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and
junior midfielder Jefferson Rojas (Pawtucket,
R.I.) followed with three shots apiece.
Josh Vlasich fired a team-high four
shots for Saint Michael's, including putting two on goal, and Omar
Khartabil registered two shots of his own.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
Saturday when the Ravens travel to face Assumption at 3 p.m. in
Worcester, Mass.
