Gareth Dudney scores equalizer in the 70th minute
RINDGE, N.H. (October 20, 2012) –
Junior forward Gareth Dudney (North Andover,
Mass.) scored a late goal as the Franklin Pierce
University men's soccer team staved off a loss and forced a
2-2 draw with Assumption on Saturday at the Multi-Sport Stadium in
Worcester, Mass. The Ravens moved to 9-3-2 overall and 7-2-2 in the
Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds moved to 4-7-2 and 3-6-2 in
league play.
Dudney's equalizer came in
the 70th minute after the Greyhounds bridged the first
and second periods with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 advantage.
His marker came from about 20 yards out as he struck a shot that
eluded the Assumption keeper and ripped the left corner of the
net.
It was Dudney's fifth tally
of the season, which is the second most on the squad, and it ran
his point total to a team-high 14.
Assumption took a 2-1 lead five
minutes earlier as Nem Kaurin beat Franklin Pierce goalie
Jake Wright (Los Angeles, Calif.) with a shot.
There weren't many shots in
the 110:00 of play, but the Ravens did hold a slim 10-9 edge in
that category. The Ravens tried to pull out the win late as they
logged three shots in the second overtime, but could not put one
into the back of the net.
Freshman midfielder Nico
Mueller (Mannehim, Germany) logged a game-high five shots
and buried one of those in the 11th minute to open the
scoring and stake the Ravens to a 1-0 lead. He scored the marker
(his fourth of the season) after junior Lukas Cramer
(Olsberg, Germany) sent a stretch pass from near the
midfield stripe deep into the box, which Mueller was able to finish
off with a strike to the back of the net.
Assumption, though, didn't
fold from the early goal and knotted the score at 1-1 in the
29th minute when Troy Lamanga struck home a blast.
Wright did not make a save in
moving his record to 9-3-2, while Greyhound keeper Dana King
stopped three shots to move his mark to 4-7-2.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
Tuesday when the Ravens play host to Bentley at 7 p.m. on Sodexo
Field in Rindge.
