Women's Tennis Falls at Stonehill, 9-0

Ravens Women's Tennis The Ravens return to action on Oct. 2 at Bentley.

EASTON, Mass. (September 25, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision at Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-2 (1-2 Northeast-10), while Stonehill opens the season 1-0 (1-0 Northeast-10).

The Skyhawks proved dominant throughout the match, while junior Melissa Cohen (Queens, N.Y.) put together one of the strongest showings for Franklin Pierce. Cohen hung tight against Stonehill sophomore Kaitlyn Martin in the first set, before ultimately falling at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-1.

In all, five Stonehill players would post wins in both doubles and singles play on the afternoon. Senior Amy Toegemann and freshman Katie Gilligan swept through their matches at second and fifth singles, respectively, 6-0, 6-0. Meanwhile, junior Jennifer Denyes and freshman Meryl Lawrence dropped only a single game each at their third and sixth singles matches.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 2, when travel to Bentley for a Northeast-10 Conference match set to begin at noon in Waltham, Mass. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Monday, Oct. 10 against Southern New Hampshire at noon.
