COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 14, 2011) -- The
Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team dropped its
second-straight match on Wednesday with a 2-1 setback to Saint
Michael's in Colchester, Vt. The Ravens fell to 3-2 overall and 1-2
in the Northeast-10, while St. Mike's improved to 2-3 and 1-2 in
league play.
Senior forward Amanda
Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) gave the Ravens a 1-0 lead in the
38th minute with her second goal of the season. Panaro notched the
tally as she fielded a pass from sophomore back Gabriela
Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and launched a long blast from
35 yards out down the left side which beat the Purple Knights
goalkeeper to the top right corner of the net. Vieira garnered an
assist on the play for her first point in a Franklin Pierce
uniform.
The Ravens held St. Mike's scoreless the rest of the half and
took the one-goal advantage into halftime.
However, Franklin Pierce could not keep St. Mike's at bay in the
early stages of the second half and the Purple Knights would knot
the score at 1-1 in the 51st minute when Kristin Hagenbarth scored
with a strike in front of the net. Saint Michael's pulled out the
win in the 85th minute with a goal from Cassie Crockett.
Franklin Pierce goalkeeper
Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) made four saves
despite suffering the loss to fall to 3-2 on the season. The Ravens
outshot St. Mike's by a 12-11 count.
Franklin Pierce returns to action next Wednesday when the Ravens
play host to Bentley at 7 p.m. in Sodexo Field.
