GAME 2 BOXSCORE
WORCESTER, Mass. (April 30, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce
University softball team concluded its 2011 season on Saturday by
being swept by Assumption in Worcester, Mass. The Greyhounds won
game one by a 7-2 count, and then pulled out a 6-2 decision in game
two. Franklin Pierce fell to 10-31 overall and 8-21 in the
Northeast-10, while Assumption improved to 25-16 and 19-9 in league
play.
In game one, Jamie Wiley
(Cape Vincent, N.Y.) and Jayme Bilafer (Concord,
Mass.) each drove in a run for the Ravens, while
Emily Griffin (Leominster, Mass.) smacked a double
to help aid in the offensive attack.
Rachel Allen (Hull,
Mass.) got the start in the pitching circle and went 5.0
innings, yielding six runs on 11 hits, while suffering the loss.
Kayla Johnson (Hudson, N.H.) saw an inning in
relief, which marked the final appearance of her collegiate
career.
Assumption jumped out to a 2-0 lead
in the second inning, but the Ravens cut into the deficit in the
fourth inning as Griffin doubled to right-center field and scored
later on a Bilafer sacrifice fly. However, the Greyhounds plated
three runs in the bottom half of the frame, and scored a run in
each of the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach
and earn the win. Lauren Medeiros belted a solo home run in the
sixth inning to help spark the Greyhounds' attack.
Jennifer Lowery earned the win in
the pitching circle for Assumption as she went 7.0 innings, giving
up just the two runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts.
Game two went much the same as game
one with Assumption holding a 2-0 lead after three innings of play.
Franklin Pierce scratched out a run in the fourth as Ashley
Noke (Cumberland, R.I.) lifted a sacrifice fly to left
field, which enabled Meaghan O'Neal (Littleton,
Mass.) to score on the play. O'Neal had walked earlier in
the frame.
However, Assumption scored three
runs in the fifth, with all of them coming on one swing of the bat
from Medeiros, who launched a three-run blast to right field. The
Greyhounds cruised the rest of the way in earning the win.
Jessica Wiley (Cape
Vincent, N.Y.) took the loss in the circle for the Ravens
as she went 6.0 innings, giving up six runs on 12 hits. Casey
Halajian earned the win in the circle for the Greyhounds.
