Greg Giguere scores game's lone goal; his second of the
season
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 15, 2011) -- The
No. 6 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's soccer
team picked up its second-straight win on Saturday with a 1-0
triumph at American International College in Springfield, Mass. The
Ravens improved to 12-0-1 and 8-0-1 in the Northeast-10, while AIC
dipped to 4-7-3 and 3-5-2 in league play.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Ravens, 10-8, but that did not
phase Franklin Pierce in this match. AIC only managed to put one of
those 10 shots on goal and Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Vinny
Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) was there to make the
save to preserve the shutout victory and run his record to 12-0-1
on the season. Papageorgiou posted his sixth shutout of the season
while also lowering his goals against average to 0.59.
Franklin Pierce got the only goal it would need in the 25th
minute when senior Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.)
fed a nice pass over to junior Greg Giguere (East
Bridgewater, Mass.), who buried a shot in the back of the
net for his second goal of the season.
Tabares was credited with an assist on the play to run his
team-leading point total to 16. He has logged at least one point in
the last six matches and has 14 points during that span.
Tabares fired off five shots during the match, including putting
four of those on goal. Senior forward Victor Goncalves (Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil) tallied two shots as well.
Franklin Pierce returns to action Wednesday when the Ravens play
host to Saint Michael's at 7 p.m. in Sodexo Field in Rindge.
