Amanda Panaro records team-high three shots for Ravens
LOWELL, Mass. (October 1, 2011) -- The Franklin
Pierce University women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision
on the road at UMass-Lowell on Saturday. It was the second-straight
setback for the Ravens who fell to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the
Northeast-10, while the River Hawks improved to 5-2-2 overall and
4-1-2 in league play.
Keanna Santos scored the only goal of the match in the 41st
minute which lifted UMass-Lowell to victory on the afternoon. She
took a pass from Jenna Costa, dribbled in and fired to the slotted
far post for her second tally of the season. Costa was credited
with an assist on the play.
Franklin Pierce outshot Lowell, 5-3, in the opening 45 minutes,
but could not get a shot past River Hawks keeper Jane
Hatzikonstantis. The shooting advantage changed hands in the second
half as the River Hawks outshot the Ravens, 4-1, thus limiting any
Franklin Pierce comeback attempt over the final 45 minutes.
Senior forward Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.)
led Franklin Pierce with three shot attempts, while sophomore
Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) followed with
two. Senior goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.)
made one save in suffering the loss to fall to 4-5 on the
season.
Franklin Pierce returns to action Tuesday when the Ravens play
host to Merrimack at 7 p.m. in Sodexo Field.
