|  Cornele scored a goal and picked up an assist as well on Saturday
night at Plymouth State.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (January 22,
2011) – Senior forwards Sean Buckley and Andrew
Stewart collected two goals and two assists each on Saturday night
as Plymouth State skated to a 7-2 victory over the Franklin Pierce
University ice hockey team in non-conference play at Hanaway Rink.
Sophomore defenseman Tyler Cornele (Cape
Coral, Fla.) provided a goal and an assist for Franklin
Pierce in defeat.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce
falls to 3-16-0 (2-4-0 Northeast-10), while Plymouth State improves
to 10-1-5 (5-1-3 Massachusetts State).
Plymouth State opened the game with
four goals in the first period, including two power-play tallies,
to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission. Senior forward
Andrew Stewart opened the scoring with his eighth goal of the
season, on the power play, at the 4:50 mark. Sophomore forward Sean
Foley and senior forward Sean Buckley picked up the assists, as the
whole line got involved on the goal. The line would strike again at
9:08, as Buckley found the net for his third of the year, while
Stewart and Foley added the helpers.
The Panthers picked up their second
power-play goal of the night at 13:57, when junior forward Chris
Zaremba put home his third of the season, off assists from freshman
forward Travis Stevens and sophomore forward Kyle Greco. The
Stewart-Buckley-Foley line struck once more, 37 seconds later, to
cap the opening period's scoring. It was Stewart who netted his
second of the night, with Foley and Buckley adding the assists.
Greco made it a 5-0 Plymouth State
lead just 91 seconds into the second period before Franklin Pierce
got on the board at the 6:21 mark of the middle stanza. Sophomore
defenseman Tyler Cornele (Cape Coral, Fla.) found
the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season and sophomore
forward Adam Dallaire
(Waltham, Mass.) contributed an assist.
Zaremba and Buckley each scored
their second goal of the night for Plymouth State in the third
period to push the lead to 7-1 before Franklin Pierce picked up a
power-play goal to create the 7-2 final. It was sophomore forward
Roscoe
Sweeney (Falmouth, Mass.) who found the net for his
seventh goal of the season, which tied him for the team lead.
Cornele and sophomore defenseman Brendan McCarron
(Andover, Mass.) chipped in the assists.
Freshman goaltender Dale Adams
(Gardner, Mass.) made 35 saves and took the loss (0-4-0)
in net for Franklin Pierce. Freshman Tyler Ingerson stopped 18
shots and picked up the win (2-0-0) between the pipes for Plymouth
State.
Plymouth State posted a 42-20
advantage in shots on goal on the night and went 5-for-8 on the
power play. Franklin Pierce finished 2-for-7 with the
man-advantage.
The Ravens return to the ice on
Saturday, Jan. 29, when they return home after a seven-game road
trip to host Stonehill in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Winchendon School
Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
