BOXSCORE
RINDGE, N.H. (September 26, 2010) – The Franklin
Pierce University women's soccer team made it two wins in a
row on Sunday as the Ravens exploded for five goals in a 5-1
triumph over Assumption at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The Ravens ran
their record to 6-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in Northeast-10 action,
while the Greyhounds dipped to 1-6-1 and 1-5 in league play.
Four different Ravens scored,
including freshman Jannice Sundqvist (Hamosand,
Sweden), who had two goals, which were the first of her
collegiate career. Senior Shona Franklin (Birmingham,
England), junior Tori Gikas (Sydney,
Australia) and freshman Margret Thorolfsdottir
(Reykjavit, Iceland) also added a tally apiece for
Franklin Pierce.
Junior goalkeeper Jocelyn
Leon (Lenox, Mass.) made three saves to earn the win and
run her record to 6-1 on the season.
Gikas got the scoring started as
she headed in a goal off a free kick in the 17th minute
for her second of the season. Aya Noguchi (Tokyo,
Japan) got credit for an assist on the play as she
launched the free kick towards the net, where Gikas was able to get
into position to score the tally.
Gikas set up Franklin for the game's second goal in the
26th minute to make it 2-0 Ravens. Gikas launched a lead
pass to Franklin, who streaked down the middle of the field and
blasted a strike into the upper center of the net for her third of
the year. Gikas was credited with an assist on the goal to give her
a three-point afternoon.
Thorolfsdottir put Franklin Pierce
up 3-0 in the 54th minute when she slammed in a goal off
a free-kick attempt from the left side of the box. It was
Thorolfsdottir's second of the season.
After Assumption got a goal from
Gabrielle Leal at the 64:48 mark of the contest to cut Franklin
Pierce's lead to 3-1, Sundqvist was inserted into the game
and sealed the win with her back-to-back goals.
She scored in the 84th
minute as she dribbled up the right-hand side of the end line and
blasted a shot that beat the Greyhound goalkeeper into the lower
left corner. Sundqvist's second marker came in the

and slipped in a shot from five yards out.
