Ravens picked up wins over Molloy and Post.

WATERBURY, Conn. (September
18, 2010) – Freshman middle Katie Jackson
(Cherry Creek, Colo.) hit .423 with 11 kills and added 10
blocks (five solo) on Saturday afternoon to post a double-double
and lead the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team to a 3-1
road win over Post at the Drubner Center. Earlier in the day,
freshman outside hitter Lauren Miller (Alexandria,
Va.) hit .450 with nine kills as the Ravens swept Molloy,
3-0. Senior outside hitter Christina Calderon (Tombstone,
Ariz.) combined to record 23 kills over the two
matches.
With the wins, Franklin Pierce
improves to 6-1 (0-0 Northeast-10). The Ravens swept past Molloy
with scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-20. Post took the first set of
the second match, 25-16, before Franklin Pierce ran off wins of
25-19, 25-18 and 25-15 to take the match.
Calderon led the way in the win
over Molloy with 11 kills as she hit .360, though Miller added nine
kills over 20 errorless swings. Graduate student outside hitter
Kelsey Painter (Glendale, Ariz.) picked up seven
kills of her own, in addition to six from Jackson, as the Ravens
hit .278 as a team over the three sets, including .393 in a
dominant first set. Senior setter Pam Walker (Chino Hills,
Calif.) dished out a match-best 34 assists and served up
three aces.
Defensively, senior libero
Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) led all
players with 16 digs and Jackson racked up three solo blocks, as
the Franklin Pierce defense allowed Molloy to hit just .130 in the
match, though the Lions made only nine errors. Most of Molloy's
damage came in an errorless second set, where it his .379 with 11
kills.
Sophomore outside hitter Jenna
Faggione led the Molloy offense with nine kills working off the set
of sophomore Jennifer Koelbel, who handed out 18 assists and served
up two aces. Defensively for the Lions, sophomore libero Stefani
Koelbel led the way with 12 digs.
Later in the day, against Post,
both Calderon (12 kills) and Jackson (11) hit double digits
offensively for the Ravens, with the latter not committing an error
over 26 swings. Miller added seven more kills of her own, while
Walker collected 31 assists.
Franklin Pierce had a field day
defensively against Post, led by 10 blocks (five solo) from Jackson
to complete her double-double, while Calderon picked up three block
assists of her own. Kohout led the back-row efforts with 33 digs,
while Painter added 14 and sophomore right side Kylie Clemens (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) chipped in 11 as they held the
Post offense to just a .101 hitting percentage. The Eagles hit .286
while winning the first set and .048 over the remaining three
sets.
Junior middle Elizabeth Knight led
the Post offense with 13 kills, while junior setter Taylor Doyle
matched Walker with 31 assists. Five Eagles found double digits on
the defensive side of the ball: senior outside hitter Teresa Hodges
(15 digs), freshman libero Monica Aristizabal (14), junior
defensive specialist Courtney Braun (14), Doyle (10) and sophomore
outside hitter Kelly Hayes (10). Knight and freshman middle
Stephanie Zarakas each had three block assists, while Aristizabal
served up four aces.
The Ravens return to the court on
Wednesday, Sept. 22, when they return home to host Saint Michael's
in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The match is scheduled for 7
p.m. at the Fieldhouse in Rindge.
