Ravens back in action at Assumption on Saturday

RINDGE, N.H. (April 7, 2010) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated by Saint Anselm, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce on Wednesday. With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-8 (1-8 Northeast-10), while Saint Anselm improves to 5-2 (5-2 Northeast-10) with the victory.

Senior Bianca LaPointe (Plainfield, Conn.) put together one of the strongest singles performances of the day for the Ravens, but she was defeated at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-1, by Saint Anselm junior Lauren DeGuglielmo. Earlier in the afternoon, LaPointe teamed with fellow senior Monica Lavertu (Berlin, N.H.) at third singles, but the duo was defeated, 8-3, by DeGuglielmo and junior Julie Bednar.

Each of Saint Anselm's six players was victorious in both singles and doubles on the afternoon. Freshmen Alexandra Lawrence and Alyssa Marciniak each lost just one game on the afternoon. The two picked up an 8-1 win in second doubles, then posted 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in third and fourth singles, respectively.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, April 10, when they travel to Assumption for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 2 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
