WALTHAM, Mass. (October 22,
2010) – Freshman outside hitter Lauren
Miller (Alexandria, Va.) narrowly missed a double-double
with nine kills and 14 digs on Friday night, but the Franklin
Pierce University volleyball was defeated, 3-1, on the road at
Bentley in Northeast-10 Conference play at Dana Center. Senior
middle Alaura Berry hit .579 and piled up 12 kills to lead Bentley
to the victory.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce
falls to 9-8 (3-7 Northeast-10), while Bentley improves to 14-12
(7-4 Northeast-10). While Franklin Pierce picked up a 25-22 win in
the second set, Bentley took the first, third and fourth sets at
25-13, 25-18 and 25-17, respectively to pick up the victory.
Bentley opened up on fire, with
just one error as the team hit .345 while storming to the 12-point
win in the first set. Franklin Pierce answered with only two errors
and a .300 game of its own in the second set. However, Bentley
would hit .206 and .286 in the final two sets, while holding the
Ravens to .029 and .000 marks.
Senior outside hitter Christina
Calderon (Tombstone, Ariz.) led the way for the
Franklin Pierce offense with 10 kills, followed by Miller and
freshman middle Katie Jackson
(Cherry Creek, Colo.), who posted six kills. The trio
worked through the set of senior Pam Walker (Chino
Hills, Calif.), who finished the night with 24
assists.
Defensively, senior libero
Chelsie Kohout
(Harrison Township, Mich.) led the Ravens with 16 digs.
She was joined in double digits by Miller and graduate student
outside hitter Kelsey Painter
(Glendale, Ariz.), who recorded 11 digs.
For Bentley, Berry was joined in
double digits by senior outside hitter Morgan O'Laughlin, who
recorded 10 kills and hit .259. Freshman outside hitter Ashley
Ahearn added nine kills for the Falcons, while senior outside
hitter Andrea Farah and sophomore middle Bridget Lawson added eight
kills each. Senior setter Kelly Mee ran the Bentley offense and led
all players with 39 assists. Mee served up a match-best four aces
as well.
Defensively, Lawson had a big day
at the net, as she was a part of seven of Bentley's eight blocks,
including five solo blocks. In the back row, senior libero Maitlyn
Kraft led all players with 31 digs and was joined in double digits
by freshman defensive specialist Kristina Wilson (12 digs).
Over the course of the match,
Franklin Pierce hit .076 with 33 kills over 132 attacks. Bentley
finished at .246 with 52 kills on 142 swings. It was the highest
hitting percentage posted against the Ravens in 17 matches so far
this season.
The Ravens return to the court on
Wednesday, Oct. 27, when they return home to host American
International in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The match is
scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Fieldhouse in Rindge.
