Ravens travel to Saint Michael's on Tuesday
Ravens field hockey wore pink jerseys as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Sodexo Field on Saturday afternoon. Throughout the days events, Franklin Pierce Athletics is raising money to benefit the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Kingsbury Pavilion in Keene.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 2, 2010) – Junior goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) made six saves on Saturday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team was defeated, 2-0, at home by American International in non-conference play. Junior forward Amanda McLean and sophomore forward Kristen Angeletti scored for AIC.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-5 (1-0 Northeast-10), while American International improves to 4-4 (1-1 Northeast-10). The game was the first of three Breast Cancer Awareness Day contests hosted by Franklin Pierce Athletics on Saturday. Throughout the day, donations were collected to benefit the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Kingsbury Pavilion in Keene.
After the first half went scoreless, American International opened the scoring just over 10 minutes into the second half. After Nyzio made a save and the defense blocked a second shot, the ball fell to McLean in the middle of the circle. From there, she scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.
Just over 10 minutes later, Angeletti and McLean broke free on a two-on-two rush in the offensive end and gave AIC the insurance marker to create the 2-0 final. McLean took the ball on the right side and threaded a pass into the middle to Angeletti, who finished off her third goal of the season.
Both teams attempted 17 shots on the afternoon, with Franklin Pierce holding a 10-8 edge in shots on goal. The Ravens were awarded eight penalty corners to six for AIC.
Nyzio made six saves on eight shots on her cage and took the loss (2-5) for Franklin Pierce. Junior Kim Steiner stopped all 10 shots sent her way to post her first shutout of the season and pick up the win (4-4) for AIC.
The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, Oct. 5, when travel to Saint Michael's for a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex in Colchester, Vt.
