Katie Jackson hit .269 and chalked up 10 kills in the Ravens sweep
at Assumption on Friday night.

WORCESTER, Mass. (October
15, 2010) – Freshman middle Katie Jackson
(Cherry Creek, Colo.) hit .269 with 10 kills, while
freshman outside hitter Lauren Miller (Alexandria,
Ind.) posted a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs to
go with a match-best five aces on Friday night to lead the Franklin
Pierce University volleyball team to a 3-0 road victory over
Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference play at Laska Gymnasium.
Freshman outside hitter Mary Johnston finished with 12 kills and 16
digs in the loss for Assumption.
With the victory, Franklin Pierce
improves to 9-6 (3-5 Northeast-10), while Assumption falls to 9-18
(0-9 Northeast-10). The Ravens swept the match by set scores of
25-17, 25-22 and 25-23.
For Franklin Pierce, Jackson led
the way, as she committed just three errors over 26 attacks and
added three digs and an ace to go with her 10 kills. While Miller
was the only other Raven to reach double digits in kills, senior
outside hitter Christina Calderon (Tombstone,
Ariz.), graduate student outside hitter Kelsey
Painter (Glendale, Ariz.) and freshman middle
Ashley Bruce (Hampton Falls, N.Y.) finished with
six kills each. Senior setter Pam Walker (Chino Hills,
Calif.) dished out 30 assists.
Defensively, three different
Franklin Pierce players finished in double digits in digs, led by
Painter, who matched her season high with 19. She was joined in
double figures by senior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison
Township, Mich.), who finished with 17 digs, and
Miller.
For Assumption, Johnston and
freshman outside hitter Lauren Ostafin (7 kills) were the only
players to post five or more kills on the evening. The pair worked
off the set of freshman Kristin Flatekval, who handed out 26
assists.
Defensively, four Greyhounds
finished in double digits: Johnston, junior outside hitter Britta
Leonard (15), senior right side Samantha Wessling (13) and Ostafin
(10). Freshman middle Kelly McConnell led all players with three
block assists.
The Ravens set the tone early, as
they tallied 27 digs in the first set to hold Assumption to an .068
attack percentage and added 29 more digs in the second set to keep
the Greyhounds at a .104 percentage. Over the course of the match,
Franklin Pierce hit .186 with 43 kills against 17 errors over 140
attacks, compared to a .115 percentage with 33 kills and 18 errors
over 130 swings for Assumption.
The Ravens return to the court on
Wednesday, Oct. 20, when they return home to host Stonehill in a
Northeast-10 Conference contest. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
at the Fieldhouse in Rindge.
