McCarron, Goodell score for Ravens

15, 2010) – Freshman defenseman Brendan
McCarron (Andover, Mass.) and senior forward Casey
Goodell (Rochester, N.H.) each scored a goal on Friday
afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team was
defeated by Becker, 3-2, in non-conference play at New England
Sports Center. Sophomore forward Brian Murray scored the
game-winner for Becker in the second period.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-10-2 (1-3-1
Northeast-10), while Becker improves to 7-7-1 (3-2-0 ECAC
Northeast) with the victory.
Becker opened the scoring with just under 6:30 to play in the first
period. Sophomore forward Patrick Bellew found the net for his
fifth goal of the season from out in front of the crease off a pass
from freshman forward Brendan Parkhouse.
After going into the first intermission trailing 1-0, Franklin
Pierce evened the score just 92 seconds into the middle stanza.
McCarron stuffed home the rebound of a shot by junior defenseman
Sean Carroll (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) for his
second goal of the season.
However, Becker would take the lead for good with a pair of goals
later in the period. First, at the 7:39 mark, freshman defenseman
Zach Robinson scored his first career goal on assists from
sophomore defenseman Jeremy Norducci and senior forward Jared
Kersner. Just less than 10 minutes later, Murray would follow with
his first of the season, on the power play. Freshman forward Ron
Paiva and sophomore forward Nate Sayer provided the assists on what
would prove to be the game-winning goal
Franklin Pierce pulled to within a goal 8:52 into the second
period, when Goodell notched his second goal of the season, while
junior forward Sean Woodring (Rogue River, Ore.)
and freshman forward Roscoe Sweeney (Falmouth,
Mass.) picked up the assists. However, the Ravens could
not find the equalizer, as Becker skated away with the 3-2
victory.
Senior goaltender Jon Tuttle (Concord, N.H.) made
21 saves and took the loss (3-5-0) in net for Franklin Pierce.
Sophomore Jake Rosenthal stopped 33 shots to pick up the win
(6-5-0) between the pipes for Becker.
Franklin Pierce posted a 35-24 advantage in shots on goal in the
game and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Becker finished 1-for-5
with the man-advantage.
The Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Jan. 16, when they return
home to host Assumption in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Winchendon School Ice Arena
in Winchendon, Mass.
