WALTHAM, Mass. (September 26, 2009) – Senior midfielder Courtney Bartlett broke a scoreless tie with just 6:20 remaining in regulation on Saturday afternoon as No. 8 nationally ranked Bentley went on to a 2-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Bentley. Sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) made seven saves in net for Franklin Pierce in defeat.

With the win, Bentley improves to 7-3 (2-1 Northeast-10), while Franklin Pierce falls to 4-6 (1-2 Northeast-10).

The first half went scoreless, with Bentley enjoying a 7-3 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners. However, despite the seemingly lopsided numbers, the Franklin Pierce defense allowed only three of Bentley's shot attempts on target and Baxter turned both of them aside. Meanwhile, two of the three shots by the Ravens were on the cage, though they could not beat Bentley senior goalkeeper Alyssa Sliney.

Much of the second half went scoreless as well, before Bentley found the back of the cage twice in a span of 2:14 to come away with the victory. It would be Bartlett who broke the ice and the scoreless tie with her sixth goal of the season off a penalty corner with just 6:20 remaining in regulation. With 4:06 to play, freshman forward Nicole Dion's third goal of the season served as an insurance marker, as she converted a feed from sophomore midfielder Stephanie Sideris.

Bentley held a 9-3 shots advantage in the second half along with a 4-2 edge in penalty corners to take 16-6 and 11-4 advantages, respectively over the full game. Franklin Pierce got all three of its shot attempts on target, but again could not put one behind Sliney.

Sliney stopped all five shots on her cage to earn the win (7-3) and her third shutout of the season in net for Bentley. Nyzio stopped seven of the nine shots on her cage and was saddled with the loss (3-5) between the pipes for Franklin Pierce.

The Ravens return to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when they return home to host Assumption in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge, N.H.
