RINDGE, N.H. (March 31,
2009) - Franklin Pierce University collected its first win
of the season with an 8-1 decision over American International
College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action this
afternoon.
Senior Helder Noguiera
(Dourados, Brazil/Lowell (Mass.)) led the double-winners
for Franklin Pierce as he cruised to an 8-0 pro-set win at number
one singles after combining with sophomore Adit
Phataraprasit (Bangkok, Thailand) for an 8-4 triumph at
first doubles. Phataraprasit also rallied after dropping the first
set (5-7) at number two singles to win the second (6-2) and third
(6-3) to finish as a double winner.
Also picking up two wins on the day
for the Ravens were freshman Sam Aubin (Manchester,
N.H./Manchester Central) and sophomore Dan
McDonough (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central). The two
combined for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, before Aubin notched a
7-6 (7-3), 6-4 triumph at third singles and McDonough posted a 7-5,
6-4 win at fourth singles.
Freshman Brett Barry
(Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham Monson Academy) picked up
the lone point for American International, rallying from a set down
for a 1-6, 6-3, 8-6 victory at No. 5 singles.
Franklin Pierce (1-6, 1-5 NE-10) is
back in action on Sunday when it visits Le Moyne College at 10 a.m.
The Ravens return home next Tuesday for its final home match
against Stonehill College at 3 p.m. American International (0-5,
0-4 NE-10) visits The College of the Holy Cross tomorrow at 3 p.m.
