Volleyball Swept By Queens And Dowling At ECC/Northeast-10 Conference Challenge

Katie Ristow Katie Ristow collected 17 kills over a pair of matches against Queens and Dowling on Saturday at the ECC/Northeast-10 Conference Challenge.

WALTHAM, Mass. (September 27, 2008) – Junior Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian) collected 17 kills over two matches on Saturday, but the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team dropped 3-0 decisions to both Queens and Dowling on the second day of the ECC/Northeast-10 Conference Challenge at Dana Center in Waltham, Mass. The Ravens finished the tournament 1-2 and Ristow, who had 13 digs and seven kills against Bridgeport on Friday, was named to the All-Tournament team.

In its morning match, Franklin Pierce was swept by Queens, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-18. In the afternoon, the Ravens lost to Dowling by scores of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-14.

In the match against Queens, Ristow led the way for Franklin Pierce with nine kills. She worked primarily off the set of senior Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo), who finished with 26 assists and also led the defensive effort with eight kills. Sophomore Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) notched eight digs as well.

For Queens, seniors Enobong Shammah (El Paso, Texas) and Natalie Edward (Castries, St. Lucia) both notched double digits with 18 and 16 kills, respectively. Freshman Antonia Klein (Thalhausen, Germany) led the way with 41 assists while freshman Latoya Edward (Castries, St. Lucia) collected 10 digs.

In the afternoon against Dowling, senior Nicole Buchholz (Broadlands, Va./Stone Bridge) led Franklin Pierce with nine kills. Hookstadt posted 19 assists while Kohout again paced the defense with nine digs.

For Dowling, juniors Patricja Klekotka (Siedlce, Poland) and Marina Markovic (Pljevlja, Serbia) led the offense with nine kills each. They worked off sets from both freshman Maja Potpara (Pljevlja, Montenegro) and sophomore Erin Przybylowicz (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley), as they dished out 20 and 19 assists, respectively. Senior Jessica Gall (Meadow Vista, Calif./Colfax) led the defense with 11 digs.

The Ravens (8-10, 1-1 NE-10) return to the court on Tuesday, September 30, when they travel to take on American International in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Butova Gymnasium in Springfield, Mass. Franklin Pierce returns home on Saturday, October 4 to host Southern Connecticut State at 12 p.m.
