Ravens run win streak to three matches with second victory over
regionally-ranked opponent this week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (September
20, 2008) - Franklin Pierce University, ranked
17th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association
of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, used two first half
goals to fuel a 3-1 victory over Southern Connecticut State
University, ranked sixth in the NSCAA/adidas East Regional
rankings, in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Jess
Dow Field tonight.
Franklin Pierce got goals from
three different players in running its winning streak to three
matches - the latter two of which have come against teams ranked in
the NSCAA's East Region poll. Senior Kristen Cilley
(Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown), junior Mackenzie
Bulych (Regina, Saskatchewan/Dr. Martin LeBoldus) and
sophomore All-American Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg,
Sweden) each scored for the Ravens, who got an assist from
junior All-American Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba,
Brazil).

Senior goalkeeper Brittany
Ester (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) posted her second
strong outing of the week for Franklin Pierce, making five saves to
preserve the victory. Sophomore Katie DiDio (Vernon,
Conn./Rockville) made five stops for Southern Connecticut.
The Ravens outshot the Owls, 16-14 for the match - including 8-6 on
target.
Freshman Jenna Mallico
(Milford, Conn./Foran) netted the lone goal for Southern,
off a feed from senior Gina Della Rose (Prospect,
Conn./Woodland Regional).
Cilley opened the scoring in the
22nd minute, when she lofted a free kick from well
outside the 18 for her first goal of the season. Johansson doubled
Franklin Pierce's lead in the 35th minute, when she
directed a rebound into the net for her team-leading
11th marker of the year.
Southern cut its deficit in half
just 1:20 into the second half as Mallico netted her second goal of
the year, off a pass from Della Rose. Franklin Pierce regained its
two-goal cushion, when Bulych provided an insurance goal, assisted
by Demoner.
Franklin Pierce (5-1-1, 3-0-1
NE-10) returns home for the first time in three weeks, when it
hosts Saint Michael's College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Southern
Connecticut State (3-3-0, 1-2-0 NE-10) hosts Le Moyne College on
Tuesday at 7 p.m.
