Gardella and Strayer each win twice in their final collegiate
match

Saint Anselm.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 6,
2008) - The Franklin Pierce University
men's tennis team completed its 2007-08 season with a 6-3 victory
over Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on
Sunday afternoon.
The Ravens were victorious in all
six matches in which the team could field a player, as the team
continued to be hurt by injuries, but all four players who competed
earned both singles and doubles victories to carry Franklin Pierce
to the conference win.
Seniors Austin Gardella
(Norwalk, Conn./ Norwalk) and Ryan Strayer
(Murfreesboro, Tenn./Enfield (Conn.)) each earned a pair
of wins in their final collegiate match, beginning with an 8-4 win
in first doubles action. Gardella then took a 6-1, 6-3 victory at
first singles over Ryan Garrette (Conway, N.H./Kennett), while
Strayer split the first two sets with Chris Tremblay (Haverhill,
Mass./Bishop Fenwick), 4-6 and 7-6, before gutting out a 13-11
tiebreaker win.
Junior Roland Oganyan
(Watertown, Mass./Watertown) and freshman Max
Logan (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) also were dual winners
for Franklin Pierce, including an 8-6 second-doubles win. Oganyan
dropped only two games at second singles in a 6-1, 6-1 win, while
Logan took a 6-4 first set in his third singles match with Chris
Darnowski (Barrington, R.I./LaSalle Academy) before cruising to a
6-1 second-set victory.
With the win, Franklin Pierce
completes its 2007-08 season with a 2-8 record both overall and in
the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm (0-9, 0-8 NE-10) travels to Bentley
College for a conference matchup on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
