Sterling, Mass., native
hits .444 in seven games to earn his second NE-10 honor
RINDGE, N.H. (April 22, 2008) – Freshman designated
hitter Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass./ Wachusett
Regional) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team
was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player and Freshman of the
Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Ingui earns his second conference honor of the 2008 season after
hitting .444 (12-for-27) with 14 runs batted in and 10 runs scored,
while also hitting two home runs and four doubles and slugging .815
as the Ravens went 5-1-1 last week. The Raven designated hitter
went 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored in a win over
American International College on Thursday, then drove in four and
scored four times in a doubleheader sweep of Southern New Hampshire
University on Saturday afternoon. The freshman capped his stellar
week with a walk-off grand slam against the Penmen on Sunday
afternoon.
The Sterling, Mass., native ranks fifth on the team with a .307
batting average (42-for-101) in his first season at Franklin
Pierce, driving in 32 runs and scoring 31 (both third on the team).
Ingui has also hit three home runs, two triples and eight doubles
while amassing a .460 on-base percentage and a .388 slugging
percentage in 37 games.
Franklin Pierce (29-9-1, 14-7-1 NE-10), ranked eighth in this
week's pingbaseball.com Division II poll, 11th in the
National Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll and 13th in the
latest Collegiate Baseball magazine rankings, returns to action
tonight against Saint Anselm College at Dr. Arthur and Martha
Pappas Field beginning at 6 p.m.
