RINDGE, N.H. (April 10,
2008) - Freshman Jordan
Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass./ Westfield) had 10 goals and
three assists to lead a record-setting evening for the Franklin
Pierce University women's lacrosse team, as the Ravens set a new
program record for goals in a 25-20 win over Norwich University in
a non-conference match on Thursday night at Sodexho Field.
Baillargeon's 10 goals are the
second-highest total in school history and are tied for fourth in
Div. II history, two behind the Div. II single-game record of 12
set by former Raven Jami Ladakakos '99, who had 12 against
Castleton State College on April 21, 1999. Her 13 points are a new
school record, surpassing Ladakakos' 12 against Castleton, and are
tied for the fifth-highest total all-time in Div. II.
Classmate Lauren Stille
(North Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) and junior captain
Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) also had six
goals and two assists each on the night to bolster the potent Raven
attack. With her totals, Stille set new program records for goals
and points by a freshman, both set by Courtney Boardman '05 in
2003, and also set a new school mark for assists in a season with
11.
The Ravens easily surpassed the
previous school record for goals in a game, set in a 19-4 win over
Southern Connecticut State University on April 7, 2002, as well as
the program record for total combined goals in a game (40), set on
April 29, 1998 and matched on Tuesday against Saint Anselm College.
Norwich had its only lead of the
game very early on, as the Cadets responded to Stille's
game-opening tally with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead
2:48 into the match. Franklin Pierce came back with four tallies in
a row by four different players to take a 5-3 lead and never
trailed again, although a four-goal swing by Norwich near the end
of the first half knotted the game at eight with six minutes
remaining.
Carla Savini scored six goals and dished out two assists against
Norwich on Thursday.

Franklin Pierce swung the momentum
back their way in the waning seconds of the half, scoring twice
while in a rare man-down situation to take a lead into halftime.
Junior Erika McGowan (Billerica, Mass./Billerica
Memorial) received a yellow card with 1:23 left in the
half and the short-handed Ravens had no substitutes remaining after
freshman Jillian Benn (North Quincy, Mass./North
Quincy) received two yellow cards earlier in the half,
forcing the team to play 10-on-11 for three minutes. The
disadvantage did not matter, however, as Stille and Baillargeon
scored goals 20 seconds apart to give the team a 10-8 lead headed
into halftime.
The Ravens carried that momentum
into the second half, putting together the highest-scoring half in
program history to hold off the Cadets. The team scored six of the
half's first nine goals to take a 16-11 lead with 21:08 left, but a
goal by Norwich's Chelsea Martin (Barre, Vt./ Spaulding) with 13:30
left in the game capped a three-goal stretch and brought the Cadets
back to within one goal. However, goals by Savini, Stille and
freshman Ashley Moirano (South Burlington, Vt./South
Burlington) gave the Ravens a four-goal cushion and the
Ravens matched every Norwich goal the rest of the way to earn the
win.
Freshman goaltender
Chaniece Franklyn (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley)
made 14 saves on 34 shots for her second victory of the year, while
Norwich freshman Erin McGaffigan (Groton, Mass./Bishop Guertin)
stopped only eight shots on 32 attempts.
Franklin Pierce (2-8, 0-6 NE-10)
returns to the road on Saturday, as the Ravens travel to West
Haven, Conn., for a matchup with IWLCA No. 9 University of New
Haven at 1 p.m. Norwich (6-2, 2-0 GNAC) travels to Mount Holyoke
College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
