Gina Lanni Gina Lanni recorded an assist on Saturday afternoon at Massachusetts Lowell.

LOWELL, Mass. (October 25, 2008) – Sophomore forwards Lizzy Ales (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) and Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) each recorded a goal and an assist on Saturday afternoon to lead No. 4 nationally ranked Massachusetts Lowell to a 5-1 victory over the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Cushing Field. Freshman midfielder Kimberly Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex) scored the only goal of the game for Franklin Pierce.

By virtue of Stonehill's win over Saint Anselm on Friday, Franklin Pierce's season will be extended, despite the loss, with a berth in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. The Ravens will travel to Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday.

Massachusetts Lowell opened the game with two goals in the first 30 minutes to push to a 2-0 lead. First, senior midfielder Missy Seeley (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) scored off a feed from senior forward Michelle Harrington (Rockport, Mass./Rockport) at the 10:27 mark. Later, at the 28:22 mark, sophomore forward Katie Enaire (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) scored of an assist from Macy to double the lead. It looked like Franklin Pierce would cut the deficit to one goal at halftime as Jaksina scored her first career goal off a pass from junior defender Gina Lanni (Mason, N.H./Mascenic Regional) with 4:11 to play in the half, but the River Hawks would regain a two-goal lead before the intermission. Macy scored off a feed from Ales with just 2:45 remaining to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

Massachusetts Lowell would tack on two more goals in the second half to come away with the 5-1 victory. At the 47:40 mark, junior forward Jacie Moulton (Baldwinville, Mass./Narragansett) passed the ball to senior forward Jill Tierney (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) who scored to make it 4-1. Ales capped the scoring with a goal off a feed from Harrington with 8:33 to play. The River Hawks held a 21-4 edge in shots over the course of the game.

Senior goalkeeper Danielle Dodier (Kensington, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) made one save in the first half to earn the victory for Massachusetts Lowell. Sophomore Amy Carbon (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) played the second half in net for the River Hawks and did not face a shot on goal. Freshman Kristin Tormollan (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) made eight saves over 62:03 in front of the Franklin Pierce cage in defeat. Freshman Rachel Baxter (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland) made one save over the final 5:35 in the first appearance of her collegiate career.

The Ravens (7-12, 7-11 NE-10) return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 29, when they travel to Southern Connecticut State for the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. Massachusetts Lowell (17-3, 17-1 NE-10) has captured the Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship and will receive a first-round bye. The River Hawks will host a Northeast-10 semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Cushing Field.
