RINDGE, N.H. (October 22, 2008) – Senior forward Andrea Slaven (Danvers, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) scored the only goal of the game on Wednesday afternoon to lead Saint Michael's to a 1-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Freshman goalkeeper Kristin Tormollan (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) made 12 saves for Franklin Pierce in defeat.

The two teams opened play with a scoreless first have. Saint Michael's held an 8-4 shots advantage and a 7-3 edge in penalty corners in the opening 35 minutes.

Slaven scored the game's only goal just under 20 minutes into the second half. She collected the ball from amidst a scramble to the right of the cage and scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season to give Saint Michael's a 1-0 lead it would not relinquish.

Saint Michael's recorded a 10-7 shots advantage in the second have to hold an 18-11 edge over the full 70 minutes.

Senior goalkeeper Jordan Smalling (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) made five saves in net for Saint Michael's to earn the victory. Tormollan stopped 12 shots for Franklin Pierce in defeat.

Franklin Pierce's postseason fate will come down to the final weekend of the season. Either a win by the Ravens at Massachusetts Lowell on Saturday or a loss by Saint Anselm at home against Stonehill on Friday will give Franklin Pierce its first berth in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships since 2001.

The Ravens (7-11, 7-10 NE-10) return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 25 for their final regular season game, when they visit Massachusetts Lowell for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Cushing Field in Lowell, Mass. Saint Michael's (10-7, 10-7 NE-10) concludes its regular season on Oct. 25 at home against American International.
