Three different players
score as Ravens extend unbeaten run to six-straight
MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 29, 2007) – Franklin
Pierce University, ranked 18th in this week's National Soccer
Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II
poll, got goals from three different players in posting a 3-1
victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10
Conference women's soccer action at Larkin Field this
afternoon.
Franklin Pierce scored the first three goals of the match and never
looked back to run its unbeaten streak to six-straight with its
third consecutive victory. The Ravens got goals from senior
All-American Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil),
junior Kelly Johnson (Stamford, Conn./Stamford)
and freshman Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg,
Sweden), while posting a 10-2 advantage in shots for the
match.
Junior Brittany Ester (Toms River, N.J./Toms River
East) made one save in goal for Franklin Pierce, while
junior Stef Young (Natick, Mass./Marian) finished with three stops
for Southern New Hampshire. Both teams conceded penalty kicks on
the afternoon.
In fact it was a penalty kick which put Franklin Pierce on the
board first as Demoner converted her attempt at 27-minutes even for
her NE-10 leading 12th goal of the season. The Ravens have now
scored first in ten of 11 matches this fall, with the lone
exception their 0-0 draw with No. 11 College of Saint Rose on
September 1.
Franklin Pierce doubled its lead just 1:09 into the second half
with Johnson's third goal of the season as she took a pass
from sophomore Mackenzie Bulych (Regina
Saskatchewan) and fired in what would prove to be the
match-winner from the top of the 18. The Ravens added an insurance
goal in the 76th minute with Johansson netting her 11th goal of the
season, assisted by senior Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield,
Mass./Taconic) and junior Kristen Cilley
(Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown).
SNHU avoided the shutout when it was awarded a penalty kick in the
closing minutes. Senior Laurie Boland (Worcester, Mass./Worcester
Academy) converted the attempt with just 2:36 left in
regulation.
Franklin Pierce (8-1-2, 6-1-2 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday
when it hosts Le Moyne College, ranked sixth in the New England
Region, at 4 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (5-7-1, 3-5-0 NE-10)
visits Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
