LOWELL, Mass. (April 28,
2007) - Franklin Pierce, ranked 8th in this
week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)
Division II poll and 15th in the Collegiate
Baseball magazine Division II rankings, split a Northeast-10
Conference baseball doubleheader at the University of Massachusetts
Lowell this afternoon at LeLacheur Park. Franklin Pierce posted a
4-1 victory in game one, before the River Hawks rebounded for a 3-0
victory in the nightcap.
In game one, sophomore right-hander
Mike Adams (Orchard, Park, N.Y./Orchard Park)
turned in another strong outing on the mound for Franklin Pierce,
while junior Kevin Renaud (Southbridge,
Mass./Southbridge) hit 3-for-5 with a double and two runs
scored.
Adams improved to 5-0 on the
season, allowing an earned run on four hits with four strikeouts
and just a walk over 7.2 innings of work. Junior Tyler
Bishop (Milford, N.H./Milford) collected his eighth save
of the season, scattering two hits with two strikeouts over the
final inning and a third.
Sophomore Scott Savastano
(Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) was 2-3 with an RBI,
while senior Jake Christman (Newton, Mass./Newton
South) was 2-4 with an RBI.
Senior Steve Paddock
(Milford, Mass.) was 1-for-4 with an RBI for UMass Lowell.
Senior Ryan Williams (Lynnfield, Mass.) took the
loss (6-2) for the River Hawks, allowing three runs, just one
earned, on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk over 5.1
innings.

In the nightcap, senior
Pete Nickerson (Dracut, Mass./Dracut) scattered
three hits over nine shutout innings to improve to 5-2 on the
season for UMass Lowell. He struck out two and walked two in the
complete-game effort.
Junior Tim Manton (Swansea,
Mass./Joseph Case) hit 2-for-4 for the River Hawks with an
RBI, while sophomore Brendan Fullerton (Beverly,
Mass./Beverly) finished 1-3 with an RBI and run scored.
Christman was 2-for-3 in game two
for Franklin Pierce, while senior Cory Shepherd (Worcester,
Mass./Burncoat) collected the Ravens only other hit.
Sophomore Alex Szymanski
(Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) suffered the loss (3-1)
for the Ravens, yielding three runs, just two earned, on five hits
with three strikeouts and two walks over 4.1 innings.
