#18 Franklin Pierce Tops American International, 4-2

Demoner double helps Ravens extend unbeaten stretch to ten matches

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 13, 2007)
– Franklin Pierce University, ranked 18th in this week's National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, posted a 4-2 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at AIC Park this afternoon.

Senior All-American Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) scored two goals to lead Franklin Pierce, while classmate Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) added a goal and assist. The Ravens extended its current unbeaten streak to ten matches with the win, which ended a string of two-straight draws.

Junior Brittany Ester (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) made three saves, allowing one goal, in 77-minutes of action before yielding to freshman Brooke Lussier (Thompson, Conn./Tourtellette Memorial) for her collegiate debut over the final 13 minutes. Freshman Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) made 12 stops for American International. The Ravens out-shot the Yellow Jackets 23-11, including 10-1 in the first half.

Franklin Pierce opened a 4-0 lead just under 50 minutes into the contest. Junior Melissa Hagmire (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) netted her first career goal 14:01 into the match as she took a cross from Giardina and slotted a shot past an outstretched Potts. Demoner netted her first goal with an unassisted strike in the 24th minute, while Giardina rounded out the first half scoring at 35:01, assisted by sophomore Mackenzie Bulych (Regina, Saskatchewan/Dr. Martin LeBoldus).

Demoner iced the match just 4:50 into the second half when she took a pass from junior Kelly Johnson (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) and scored her NE-10 leading 16th goal of the season.

AIC wouldn't go away quietly, scoring the final two goals to close out the match. Freshman Cassie Ashwell (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) netted an unassisted goal from 20-yards out in the 75th minute, before sophomore Meghan O'Herron (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) scored her first goal of the season in the 87th.

Franklin Pierce (10-1-4, 8-1-4 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts the University of New Haven in a non-conference contest at 6 p.m. American International (7-10-0, 2-9-0 NE-10) travels to Saint Anselm College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
