Stockdale nets winner 1:28 from
end to lift Ravens to victory
BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. (September
23, 2006) - Franklin Pierce, receiving votes in this
week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, picked up its fifth-straight
victory with a 1-0 double-overtime decision at Pace University,
ranked tenth in the New England region, this afternoon.
Junior Laura Stockdale
(Sunderland, England), a transfer from Lindsey Wilson
College, avoided the draw for Franklin Pierce when she netted the
only goal of the match just 1:28 from the end of the second
overtime session. Stockdale's second goal of the season came in the
109th minute with an unassisted strike.
Junior goalkeeper Jenna
Mello (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) preserved her third
shutout of the season (18th career) with a season-high
matching seven saves, six of which came during regulation. Pace
senior goalkeeper Jocelyne Durando (Monroe,
N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) also stopped seven shots on the
afternoon.
Franklin Pierce had a shot by
senior All-America back Alex Scavo (Toronto,
Ontario/Brother Andre) cleared off the line by a Pace
defender just 3:25 into the second half. The Ravens finished with a
16-12 advantage in shots for the match, including 4-1 over the two
overtime sessions.
Franklin Pierce (6-2, 5-2 NE-10)
returns to action on Tuesday, September 26, when it hosts No. 19
Merrimack College at 7 p.m. Pace (4-5-1, 2-5-1 NE-10) visits
Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
