Debler and Clifford lead Ravens in victory

RINDGE, N.H. (September 23, 2006)
– The Franklin Pierce field hockey team registered a 4-2
victory over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10
Conference action this afternoon at Sodexho Field. Freshman Katie Debler (Walpole,
Mass./Walpole) led the Ravens with two goals while sophomore
Jenee Clifford (Sandown,
N.H./Timberlane) posted a score and two assists.
Franklin Pierce opened the scoring midway through the first half
as Debler recorded her first collegiate goal off assists from
Clifford and sophomore Kayleigh
Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex). The Ravens
extended their lead early in the second half as senior Mary Beth Huszar (Greenville,
N.H./Greenville) netted her third goal of the season just
2:18 into the second frame.
Southern Connecticut fired back as freshman Sarah Vincent
(Westbrook, Conn./Westbrook) collected her first goal of the season
to cut the Raven lead to one. Franklin Pierce matched the goal just
0:13 later when Clifford blasted a shot from the top of the key
past Owl goalkeeper, Casey Sanford (North Haven, Conn./North
Haven).
Southern Connecticut responded with just 3:18 remaining in the
match cutting the Franklin Pierce lead to one again, but a last
minute goal by Debler sealed the Ravens third victory of the
season.
Franklin Pierce goalkeeper, senior Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan
School) made four saves in the game, including three in the
second half, while Sanford totaled eight stops for Southern
Connecticut. Franklin Pierce (3-3, 3-2 NE-10) will be in action
again Monday as it travels to American International College at 4
p.m. Southern Connecticut (2-6, 2-4 NE-10) will hosts L.I.U.-C.W.
