Demoner tallies goal and assist to
lead Ravens to eighth-straight win
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (October 4,
2006) - Franklin Pierce, ranked 15th in this
week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, came back from a goal down early
to post a 2-1 victory over Le Moyne College in Northeast-10
Conference women's soccer action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic
Complex this afternoon.
Junior midfielder Gabriela
Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) played a role in both Franklin
Pierce goals to lift the Ravens to their eighth-straight victory
with a goal and assist.
Le Moyne opened the scoring when
freshman Courtney Paddock (Baldwinsville,
N.Y./Baldwinsville) curled a corner kick into the goal
just 8:50 into the match. The goal ended Franklin Pierce's run of
three-straight shutouts and a scoreless minute streak of
341:55.
Franklin Pierce equalized in the
32nd minute when Demoner connected with junior
Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) for her
fourth goal of the season (all in the last five matches). Demoner
put the Ravens ahead in the 66th minute when she drilled
in a free kick from the top of the arc.
Junior goalkeeper Jenna
Mello (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) made five saves to
preserve the victory for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Amanda
Abbatiello (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) finished with seven
saves for Le Moyne, who was out-shot 16-9 for the match.
Franklin Pierce (9-2, 8-2 NE-10)
returns to action on Saturday for a non-conference battle at the
University of New Haven at 2 p.m. The Ravens are back home on
Saturday, October 14, when they host the University of
Massachusetts Lowell at 2 p.m. Le Moyne (7-4, 6-4 NE-10) visits
Merrimack College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
