Barone nets game-winner in overtime period; Pietraszuk earns
first shutout of the season

Wednesday at Assumption.

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 18, 2006)
– The Franklin Pierce field hockey team completed the
season-series sweep over Assumption College, defeating the
Greyhounds, 1-0 (OT) in Northeast-10 Conference action at
Multi-Sports Stadium this evening. Franklin Pierce limited
Assumption to just seven shots throughout the match to earn its
fourth victory of the season.
After two scoreless periods in regulation, Franklin Pierce broke
the scoring silence just 4:29 seconds into the overtime period as
senior captain Angela Barone
(Norwood, Pa./Interboro) netted her first goal of the
season. After a save by Assumption goalkeeper Brandi Guertin
(Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham), Barone controlled loose ball in
front of the goal and netted the rebound to clinch the victory for
the Ravens.
Franklin Pierce senior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan
School) collected three saves to preserve her first shutout
of the season. Guertin posted four saves for Assumption despite the
loss.
Franklin Pierce (4-10, 4-8 NE-10) will be in action again on
Saturday as it hosts No. 5 ranked Stonehill College at 1 p.m.
Assumption (5-11, 5-8 NE-10) will travel to No. 7 ranked UMass
Lowell on Saturday at 1 p.m.
