Giardina's goal and three assists
lead Ravens to 11th-straight victory
RINDGE, N.H. (October 14,
2006) - Franklin Pierce, ranked 12th in this week's
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas
Division II poll, rolled to its 11th-straight victory
with a 5-1 decision over No. 21 UMass Lowell in Northeast-10
Conference women's soccer action at Sodexho Field this afternoon.
Junior Jenna Giardina
(Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) led Franklin Pierce to the key
Conference win with a goal and three assists for a career-best five
points. Freshman Shona Franklin (Leicester,
England) added two second half goals for the Ravens.
Franklin Pierce opened a 2-0 lead
at the break as Giardina opened the scoring just 3:24 into the
match when she picked up a loose ball and dribbled 15-yards before
scoring. Giardina set up freshman Mackenzie Bulych (Regina,
Saskatchewan/Dr. Martin LeBoldus) in the 25th
minute for the Ravens second
marker.
Giardina assisted on Franklin
Pierce's first two goals of the second half. Junior
Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) scored off
Giardina's cross from the right side 5:30 into the second half,
before Franklin netted her first goal off a Giardina pass in the
59th minute.
Franklin completed her double to
round out the Ravens scoring in the 80th minute, before
UMass Lowell gained some consolation with a Kristin Mahoney
(Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) penalty kick in the
88th minute.
Junior Jenna Mello
(Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) was credited with one save
in goal for Franklin Pierce, while freshman Jamie Gillis
(North Billerica, Mass./Billerica) made five stops for the
River Hawks.
Franklin Pierce (12-2, 10-2 NE-10)
is back in action tomorrow when it hosts American International
College for its final regular season home match of the year at 3
p.m. UMass Lowell hosts Southern Connecticut State University on
Tuesday at 7 p.m.
