Hislop's five points lead Ravens
to second comeback win of the season
MANCHESTER, N.H. (September
17, 2005) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 2 in this week's
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas
Division II poll, fell behind early but stormed back by scoring
three times in a seven-minute span to post a 5-2 victory over Saint
Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at
Melucci Field.
Senior All-American
Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland)
totaled five points, with two goals and an assist, for the second
time this season, while junior back Alex Scavo
(Toronto, Ontario/Brother Andre) headed in a pair to
lead Franklin Pierce. Senior All-American Sonya Hughes
(Balbriggan, Ireland) dished two assists, while
freshman Kristen Cilley (Belchertown,
Mass./Belchertown) netted her first collegiate goal
for the Ravens.
Saint Anselm opened the scoring
when junior Jocelyn Savastano (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth
North) netted her first of two goals on the
afternoon, assisted by classmate Stephanie Blaisdell
(Exeter, N.H./Exeter), at
17:01.
The Hawks, who were out-shot 28-11
on the afternoon, held Franklin Pierce off the scoreboard until
Cilley headed in a Hughes corner kick with just 2:19 left in the
first half.
The Ravens, who out-shot the hosts
16-3 over the final 45-minutes, erupted for three goals (all off
Hislop free kicks) in a seven-minute span an hour into the match to
break things open. Scavo headed in a Hislop free kick to put the
Ravens up for good at 59:58, then Hislop scored back-to-back goals
on free kicks in the 63rd and 67th minutes.
Savastano finished off her double
with an unassisted tally at 68:58, but Scavo regained the
three-goal margin with a header off a Hughes corner in the
82nd minute.
Saint Anselm junior goalkeeper
Ashley Capachione (Whitman, Mass./Cardinal
Spellman) made 11 saves on the afternoon, while
Franklin Pierce sophomore Jenna Mello (Londonderry,
N.H./Londonderry) registered four stops.
Franklin Pierce (5-1-1, 3-1-1
NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Stonehill
College at 3:30 p.m. The match is the front end of a midweek soccer
doubleheader with the Franklin Pierce men hosting Bentley College
at 7 p.m. Saint Anselm (3-2-1, 0-2-1 NE-10) visits Bentley College
on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
