Dolphins collect first Conference
win, shoot 55.8% from the field
RINDGE, N.H. (January 6,
2005) - Le Moyne College collected its first Conference
win of the season with an 81-57 victory over Franklin Pierce in
Northeast-10 men's basketball action at the Franklin Pierce
Fieldhouse.
Le Moyne took a 39-29 advantage
into the intermission and led by as many as 27 in the second half.
The Dolphins outscored the Ravens 42-28 in the second frame to
preserve the victory and shot a sizzling 55.8-percent from the
field (29-52), including 52.6-percent (10-19) from three-point
range.
Freshman Trent Morgan
(Maple Heights, Ohio/St. Edward) scorched the Ravens
defense for 22 points on seven-of-ten shooting from the field,
including five-of-seven from beyond the arc. He also added a
game-high six assists and three steals.
Junior Sid Pond
(Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) registered a
double-double with ten points and a game-best 11 rebounds, while
sophomore Matt Cooper (Fulton, N,Y.
/Fulton) chipped in with 12 points and seven boards.
Freshman Jason Holmes (Mamaroneck,
N.Y./Mamaroneck) and junior Corey Smith
(Gouverneur, N.Y./Gouverneur) netted 18 and 11 points
respectively, giving the visitors five double-digit scorers.
Franklin Pierce was led by junior
Justin Powell (Brookline,
Mass./Brookline) with 13 points, on five-of-seven
shooting from the field, and Douaine Anderson
(Wolverhampton, England/Colton Hills/Wilmington
(Del.)), who posted a season-best 11 points.
Freshman Mitchell
Johnson (Nassua, Bahamas/Cushing Academy) grabbed a
team-high five rebounds to go along with nine points, and sophomore
Darryl Minnifield (Boston,
Mass./Brookfield) added ten points, as he nailed
two-of-four three-point attempts for the Ravens.
Le Moyne held a ten-point lead
(48-38) with 15:43 to play and took control of the game with a 19-5
run over the next four minutes. Morgan capped the stretch with a
three-point basket and the Dolphins didn't let the Ravens within 20
points the rest of the way.
Franklin Pierce (3-8, 1-5 NE-10) is
back in action on Saturday when it travels to Saint Michael's
College at 3:30 p.m. Le Moyne (3-9, 1-6 NE-10) visits Southern New
Hampshire University on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
