Golden Knights 60-percent
second-half breaks game open
ALBANY, N.Y. (January 17,
2005) - The College of Saint Rose, ranked No. 18 in the
most recent NABC Division II poll, used a 60.7-percent (17-28)
second-half shooting effort to break open a ten-point game at
halftime en route to a 93-68 victory over Franklin Pierce in
Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action at Daniel P. Nolan
Gymnasium tonight.
Saint Rose built a ten-point
(43-33) lead heading into the break, but broke the game open in the
second half by connecting on 60.7% of its shots from the field,
including 2-for-2 from three-point range, and converting 14-of-18
free-throw attempts.
Freshman Steve
Dagostino (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) led Saint
Rose with 23 points as he hit 5-of-8 shots from the field,
including 3-6 from three-point range, to go with 10-12 shooting
from the line.
Senior forward Adonist
Barber (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) added 15
points, including the 1,000th of his career, nine
rebounds and four blocks, while classmate Terry George
(Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Traditional) contributed 13
points and nine rebounds (five offensive) in 18 minutes off the
bench. Junior Brad Shove (Pittsfield,
Mass./Pittsfield) contributed 13 points, while
classmate Terrance King (Hemstead,
N.Y./Hempstead) chipped in 10 points and three
steals.
Sophomore Sean Mayo
(Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) scored a career-best
12 points to go with six rebounds (five offensive) to lead Franklin
Pierce. Junior Tom Sadler (Oxford, England/Farmington
(N.H.)) also netted 12 points to go with five
rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench, while classmate
Douaine Anderson (Wolverhampton, England)
rounded out the Ravens double-digit scorers with ten points.
Franklin Pierce hit just 1-of-12
attempts from three-point range on the night and shot just 36.8%
(21-57) from the field overall. Saint Rose finished the night
hitting 49.2% (30-61) from the field, including 6-13 (46.2%) from
three-point range.
Franklin Pierce (4-11, 2-8 NE-10)
returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Pace University at 7:30
p.m. Saint Rose (14-3, 11-1 NE-10) visits Southern New Hampshire
University on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
