Falcons explode for five goals in second half

Tuesday at Bentley.

WALTHAM, MASS. (September 7, 2004)
– The Franklin Pierce field hockey team was defeated 6-1 by
host Bentley College in Northeast-10 Conference action this
evening. With the victory, the Falcons now have an overall record
of 2-1 and improve to 2-1 in the conference.
Bentley opened the scoring just 5:12 into the first half, when
sophomore forward Lindsey Harrington (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane
Regional) took a feed from senior Liz Kopec (Bethel, Conn./Bethel)
and netted her first of two goals. Harrington would later add two
assists, giving her six points for the game. Franklin Pierce
knotted the score at one on an unassisted goal by sophomore
midfielder Angela Barone (Norwood,
Pa./Interboro) late in the first half.
The Falcons dominated the second half, scoring five unanswered
goals. Sophomore forward Mary Rogers (Watertown, Mass./Watertown)
led the charge, scoring three goals and assisting on another.
Rogers finished with a game-high seven points, bringing her total
to eleven on the season. Senior midfielder Kayla Gogos (West
Brookfield, Mass./Quaboag Regional) added an unassisted goal late
in the second half to give Bentley the 6-1 advantage. Goalkeeper
Kristin Johnson (Reading, Mass./Reading) picked up her second win
of the season before leaving the game with 5:28 remaining in the
second half.
Franklin Pierce (1-1, 1-1 NE-10) returns to action Thursday, when
they host Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm College at 4
p.m. on the Upper Field.
