Angela Barone Angela Barone scored the only goal of the game for the Ravens on Thursday at Merrimack.

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (September 30, 2004) – The Franklin Pierce field hockey team fell 2-1 to host Merrimack College today in Northeast-10 action. Sophomore forward Kristen Belair (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) netted both goals in leading Merrimack to victory. With the win, the Warriors evened the season series at one apiece. When the two teams met earlier in the season, it was the Ravens who came out on top 2-1. Merrimack improves its overall record to 4-4 and its league record to 3-4, while Franklin Pierce drops to 3-5 both overall and in conference competition following today's match.

Belair got the Warriors on the board first, as she capitalized on a feed by senior Amy Gadwah (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth) to tally her fifth goal of the season 19:02 into the match. She then gave her team the 2-1 advantage, as she beat Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Brandi Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) for her second goal of the game just 4:55 later. Senior Katie Walker (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) was credited with the assist on what proved to be the game-winner. Sophomore Angela Barone (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) scored the lone goal for the Ravens off a pass by junior Laura Blanchard (Rockport, Mass./Rockport) late in the first half to make the score 2-1. Neither team scored in the second half of play.

Freshman Amy Larrabee (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) played all 70 minutes, saving eight shots en route to her third victory of the season. Guertin took the loss, as she surrendered both Warriors goals in the first half. Sophomore Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) replaced Guertin in the second half and saved all nine shots that's she faced.

Franklin Pierce (3-5, 3-5 NE-10) will be in action on Saturday, as they host UMass Lowell for a conference match at 1 p.m. Merrimack (4-4, 3-4 NE-10) will also play on Saturday when they travel to Stonehill for a league match beginning at 1 p.m.
