PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2004)
– The Franklin Pierce volleyball team defeated host Pace
University 3-2 (30-28, 30-25, 30-32, 19-30, 15-10) in Northeast-10
Conference action this evening. After the Ravens won the first two
games of the match, Pace battled back to force a fifth game.
Franklin Pierce proved to be too much for the Setters, as they held
on to win the deciding game. With the win, Franklin Pierce improves
its record to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference, while Pace
falls to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Franklin Pierce received contributions from a number of players.
Freshman setter Bria Williams
(Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) had 50 assists to go
along with six digs and five kills, while junior Jessica Ward (Clinton, Conn./Morgan
School) chipped in with 21 digs and six kills. A pair of
sophomore outside hitters also came up big for the Ravens. Christina Collett (Tombstone,
Ariz./Tombstone) had a team-high 17 kills, while Michelle McConnell (Elora,
Ontario/Centre Wellington) tallied 15 kills, 12 digs and
five aces. Junior co-captain Tara
Vece (Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) led Franklin Pierce with
23 digs.
Franklin Pierce (4-7, 3-4 NE-10) will next be in action on
Wednesday, when they travel to Rivier College for a non-conference
match beginning at 7 p.m. Pace (2-5, 2-3) will take the courts
again tomorrow, as they host UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 contest
starting at 3 p.m.
