Ravens close out record 12th-straight victory with play at
the plate
RINDGE, N.H. (April
25, 2004) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 6 in this week's
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division
II Northeast Region poll, won its third one-run game of the weekend
with a 1-0 victory over Stonehill College, ranked fourth in the
region, in a key Northeast-10 Conference baseball matchup at Gorman
Field this afternoon.
The win is a record
12th-straight for Franklin Pierce, which completed the
key three-game weekend series sweep of Stonehill by posting one-run
victories in each contest. The Ravens posted 5-4 and 6-5 wins in
Rindge, N.H., on Saturday, winning both games in their last at bat,
before holding on for the 1-0 triumph this afternoon.
Junior right-hander
Keith Brouillard (Westport,
Mass./Somerset) improved to 8-0 on the season as he
fired a three-hit shutout, walking just two and striking out seven
in the complete game effort. With the win, he is the first pitcher
in program history to start a season 8-0 and his eight consecutive
winning decisions matches the record set by former Franklin Pierce
All-American Matt Weagle who accomplished the feat between the 2002
and 2003 seasons.
Brouillard out-dueled Stonehill
sophomore Billy Sittig (West Roxbury,
Mass.) who was pinned with the loss despite yielding
just an unearned run on four hits and three walks with eight
strikeouts over nine innings.
Sophomore Elliott Shea
(Jaffrey, N.H./Conant) paced the Franklin Pierce
offense as he finished 1-for-4 and scored the lone run of the
contest. His two stolen bases which set up the winning run were the
21st and 22nd of the season, surpassing
teammate Eric Cavers (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford
Hills) single-season record of 20 set in
2003.
Shea reached on an error to lead
off the Ravens fourth and stole second. With one out, he stole
third and scored when Stonehill freshman catcher
Matthew Dudley's (Norton, Mass./Norton)
throw sailed into leftfield.
Freshman Kim Hart
(Gorham, Maine/Gorham) finished 1-for-2 at the plate
for Franklin Pierce with a pair of walks. Cavers batted 1-4 to
extend his team-best hitting streak to a season-long 12 games and
freshman Garrett Olson (Norway, Maine/Oxford
Hills) chipped in with a double.
Junior Tim Flynn
(Clifton Park, N.Y.) hit 1-3 for Stonehill, as did
senior Joe Mastromonaco (Carmel, N.Y.).
Flynn also stole a pair of bases
Flynn singled to lead off the
Chieftains ninth, stole second and advanced to third on a
groundout. Senior Mike Schlittler (Needham,
Mass.) followed with a fly ball to rightfield and
Franklin Pierce sophomore Mike Feetham (Quincy,
Mass./North Quincy) made the catch and fired a strike
to Cavers who held on to the ball on the collision Flynn at the
plate to make the final out of the ballgame.

is scheduled to return to action tomorrow afternoon with a
doubleheader at Assumption College beginning at 2 p.m. Stonehill
