Golden Knights off to 5-0
Conference start for first time since joining the
NE-10
RINDGE, N.H. (December 8,
2004) - The College of Saint Rose is off to a 5-0 start in
Conference play for the first time since joining the Northeast-10
Conference prior to the 2000-01 season after collecting an 85-72
victory over Franklin Pierce in NE-10 men's basketball action at
the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse tonight.
After opening an eight-point
halftime lead (38-30) thanks to a six-for-12 (50-percent) effort
from three-point range in the first half, Saint Rose hit 51.6%
(16-31) of its shots from the field over the final 20 minutes to
extend its lead, while Franklin Pierce connected on just 1-of-13
(7.7%) of its attempts from long-distance for the night.
Junior Brad Shove
(Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) led Saint Rose with a
game-high 25 points, aided by a 9-of-9 effort at the free-throw
line, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior
Adonist Barber (Schenectady,
N.Y./Schenectady) registered a double-double with 14
points and a game-best 11 rebounds to go with three assists, three
steals and two blocks. Freshman Steve Dagostino
(Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) added 16 points (12
first half), aided by 4-9 shooting from three-point range, and six
assists, while senior Terry George (Buffalo,
N.Y./Buffalo Traditional) chipped in ten second-half
points and six boards off the
bench.
Junior Tom Sadler
(Oxford, N.H./Farmington (N.H.)) paced Franklin
Pierce with a season-high 17 points (13 first half), on 6-of-8
shooting from the field, and four rebounds in 17 minutes off the
bench. Freshman Darrell Anderson (Kansas City, Kan./The
Winchendon School) made his first collegiate start
and added 13 points (11 second half), hitting 6-7 from the field,
and four rebounds, while junior Justin Powell
(Brookline, Mass./Brookline) contributed 11 points,
five boards and two blocks.
The Ravens also got nine points
from freshman Dominik Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif./A.B.
Miller) and a career-best nine rebounds from
sophomore Nazim Senaldi (Istanbul,
Turkey).
Saint Rose led by as much as 15
points (31-16) in the opening half, but Franklin Pierce closed to
within eight points (38-30) after scoring the final five points of
the stanza. The Golden Knights pulled out to a 16-point advantage
(55-39) less than eight minutes into the second half after a Barber
lay-up at the 12:33-mark.
The Ravens scored seven-straight
points, five from Anderson, to pull within nine points (55-46) with
11:15 left in regulation. The Golden Knights answered the call with
a 10-2 run, sparked by three points from George to open a 17-point
advantage with 7:55 to play.
The Ravens trailed by 19 (74-55)
with 3:56 to play after a George lay-up, but again got within
single-digits (79-70) with 23-seconds to play after a 15-5 run,
sparked by six points from Powell. However, it was too little too
late as Shove iced the win with four free throws.
Franklin Pierce (2-4, 1-3 NE-10)
looks to end a three-game slide on Saturday when it faces Florida
Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla., at 7:30 p.m. Saint Rose
(6-2, 5-0 NE-10) looks for a sixth-straight win when it hosts Le
Moyne College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
