Hughes' second-half goal lifts
Ravens to victory
BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. (October
2, 2004) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 1 in this week's
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas
Division II poll, rebounded from a tough loss just two days ago and
grinded out a 1-0 victory at Pace University in Northeast-10
Conference action this afternoon.
Junior midfielder Sonya
Hughes (Balbriggan, Ireland) scored the lone goal of
the match in the 64th minute off a feed from freshman
Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield,
Mass./Taconic) to lift Franklin Pierce to victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Linnea Authier (East Longmeadow, Mass./East
Longmeadow) made two saves for the Ravens to preserve
her second shutout of the season and fourth of her career - which
ranks tenth in program history.
Pace sophomore Jocelyne
Durando (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) kept the
Setters in the match with six saves. The Ravens out-shot the
Setters 11-8 for the match.
Franklin Pierce (8-1, 6-1 NE-10)
returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Bryant College in a key
Conference match at 3:30 p.m. Pace (4-5-1, 3-3-1 NE-10) hosts UMass
Lowell on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
