First-half flurry lifts Ravens to
victory, Hislop nets third hat trick of the season
RINDGE, N.H. (October 14,
2004) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 6 in this week's
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas
Division II poll, used a three-goal flurry within a span of ten
minutes early in the first half to fuel a 4-0 victory or the
University of Massachusetts Lowell, ranked ninth in the region, in
Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Sodexho Field this
afternoon.
Junior All-American
Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland)
led Franklin Pierce with her third hat trick of the season (eighth
career), while senior All-American Meghan Welcome
(Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) dished a pair of
assists.
Hislop opened the scoring 7:24 into
the match after sophomore back Alex Scavo (Toronto,
Ontario/Brother Andre) passed a ball into the UMass
Lowell end from midfield that freshman Jenna Giardina
(Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) one-touched to Hislop for
a wide-open shot from the left channel into the lower right corner.
Hislop doubled the Ravens lead in
the 16th minute with a side-footed shot with her left
foot from the right channel into the lower left corner after
Welcome sent her in on a break with a pass from the center of the
field.
Senior Martta Makila
(Vantaa, Finland) extended the lead to three goals in
the 18th minute when Welcome spotted her with a cross
for a header at the far post.
Hislop finished off her hat trick
just under the hour mark as she pounced on a rebound off a saved
shot by sophomore Kristen Lake (Marshfield,
Mass./Marshfield) and fired it into the back of the
net.
UMass Lowell put some pressure on
Franklin Pierce late as it attempted to claim its first goal in
program history against the Ravens. Junior Jody Graham
(Billerica, Mass./Billerica) forced a good save from
Franklin Pierce sophomore Linnea Authier (East
Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) with a shot from
the left channel in the 80th minute.
Authier posted a career-high five
saves (four second half) to claim her third shutout of the season
(fifth career) for Franklin Pierce. Freshman Katelyn
Campopiano (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) registered
seven stops for UMass Lowell.
