Penalty stroke from Stone gives Greyhounds the advantage in
shootout
RINDGE, N.H. (September 6, 2003) - The
Franklin Pierce University field hockey team suffered a hard 2-1
loss to Assumption College in penalty strokes in their Northeast-10
Conference matchup this afternoon at the Franklin Pierce Field
Hockey/Lacrosse field.
The teams battled through two scoreless overtimes, tied at one,
before the game would be decided in a shootout. Linsey Stone
(Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) lifted the ball past Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The
Morgan School) giving Assumption the edge in penalty
strokes.
The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead into the second half on a goal from
Courtney Petrillo (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) with 16:27 to go in
the first.
Freshman Collette Brady
(Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) notched the game-tying goal
for the Ravens with 25:06 left in the second.
In her debut in net, Pietraszuk made a total of 17 saves, including
eight in the overtime periods. Junior Colleen Haughey (Valhalla,
N.Y./Valhalla) made 15 saves and stopped all five Franklin Pierce
shooters on the penalty strokes.
Franklin Pierce (0-2, 0-2 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when
it hosts Bentley College in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 4
p.m. Assumption (2-2, 1-1 NE-10) hosts Southern Connecticut State
University for a Conference match at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
