LOWELL, Mass. (September 20, 2003)
– The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team fell to
UMass Lowell by a score of 5-0 in Northeast-10 Conference field
hockey action this afternoon.
Laura Petros (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) lead the River
Hawks' offense, totaling two goals at 8:12 and 46:41 while
junior Alysia Morgan (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) notched a goal and
two assists.
UMass Lowell opened up the scoring with a goal from sophomore
Taylor Kloss (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) 5:57 into the first.
The River Hawks went on to net another in the first and sealed the
victory with three more scores in the second half.
Franklin Pierce goalkeepers, sophomore Brandi Guertin (Bellingham
Mass./Bellingham) and freshman Amanda Pietrasuk (Clinton, Conn./Morgan
School) combined for five saves on the afternoon. Senior
Patrice Mendoza (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) recorded three saves
in 59 minutes of work, while freshman Nicole Staiti (Barre,
Mass./Quabbin Regional) made two saves and closed out the game.
Franklin Pierce (4-4, 3-4 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when
it travels to Saint Michael's College for a League match at 4
p.m. UMass Lowell next hosts American International on Thursday in
a Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
