Ravens jump out to big lead in game one, coast to victory;
Bulldogs bust open game two late for victory
RINDGE, N.H. (April 27,
2003) - Franklin Pierce, ranked fourth in this week's New
England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division II
poll, split a marathon doubleheader with Bryant College in
Northeast-10 Conference Markey Division baseball action at Crystal
Field this afternoon.
The Ravens took game one, 12-5,
before the Bulldogs posted a 13-6 victory in the nightcap. In game
one, Franklin Pierce scored four runs in each of the first three
innings and coasted the rest of the way for a 12-5 victory.
Junior Dante Blancarte
(Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) led the Ravens 14-hit
barrage as he was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three
RBI. Sophomore Eric Cavers (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford
Hills) was 3-4 with a double, three runs scored and
two RBI, while freshmanElliott Shea (Jaffrey,
N.H./Conant) also finished 3-4 with a run scored and
RBI. Senior Paul McAuliffe (Foxboro,
Mass./Foxboro) chipped in with a 2-4 game and three
runs scored.
Sophomore Bryan
Borowski (Clarksburg, Mass./Drury) improved to 4-0 on
the spring as he allowed three unearned runs on six hits with five
walks and five strikeouts.
Freshman Daryle Crowley led Bryant
as he was 2-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Senior Jeff Renga
was 2-5 with an RBI, while freshman Adam Rourke was 1-2 with two
RBI.
Freshman Matt Bishop took the loss
(2-8) as he was hit for 12 runs, eight earned, on 11 hits with
three walks and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings.

In the nightcap, Bryant (which was
the home team in the makeup of yesterday's rainout) broke open a
4-4 game with two runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh to
break the game open in a contest called in the bottom of the eighth
due to darkness. The Bulldogs pounded out 16 hits in the game,
while limiting Frankin Pierce to six.
Renga hit 3-3 with three runs
scored and an RBI, while freshman Nick Turcarella was 3-4 with a
triple and three RBI to lead the offense. Sophomore Mickey Ryan
finished 3-5 with three RBI, while Crowley belted a three-run homer
in the seventh.
Freshman Chris Bowser picked up the
win (1-2) as he allowed four earned runs on five hits with four
strikeouts and a walk in six innings of work.
Freshman Nick Panza
(Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) led the Ravens offense
by hitting 2-3 with a double and run scored. Cavers extended his
team season-long hitting streak to 13 games with a leadoff homer in
the third and freshman Shawn Hayes (Charlton,
Mass./Holy Name) added a two-run single to knot the
score at 4-4 in the fourth.
Redshirt freshmanJake
Tenney (Surry, N.H./Monadnock) suffered the loss
(0-1) in relief. He allowed nine runs, six earned, on nine hits
with three strikeouts and two walks in 4.2 innings of work.
Franklin Pierce (18-11, 11-7 NE-10)
returns to action tomorrow afternoon for a key Conference
doubleheader at home against Saint Anselm College at 2 p.m. Bryant
(20-20-1, 9-12 NE-10) visits Southern Connecticut State University
on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
