#21 Franklin Pierce Splits Again

Brouillard shuts out North Dakota in game one; Fighting Sioux squeak out win in game two

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 19, 2003) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 21 in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) Division II poll, registered its third-straight doubleheader split of the season, this time against University of North Dakota at the Gene Cusic Classic today.

The Ravens posted a 3-0 victory in game one, before suffering a 5-3 setback in game two. Sophomore Keith Brouillard (Westport, Mass./Somerset), a transfer from UMass-Amherst, fired a four-hit shutout in his first start in a Franklin Pierce uniform to lead the way in game one. Brouillard walked just one and struck out six in the seven-inning complete game effort.

Senior Josh Coughlin (Keene, N.H./Keene) continues to swing a hot bat for the Ravens as he hit 2-3 with a double and a run scored. The two-bagger came in the second inning and he then scored the Ravens third run of the game on an Eric Cavers (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) ground out.

Franklin Pierce struck for a pair of runs in the first when senior Paul McAuliffe (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) singled, then scored on junior Dante Blancarte's (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) first home run of the season (23rd career).

North Dakota junior right-hander J.J. Scheving suffered the loss as he yielded three earned runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings of work.
